Caring for your jewels
Silver can tarnish when exposed to highly chlorinated pools, oils, sulfur soap and chemicals, but the best way to keep it shiny is by simply wearing it. The natural oils in your skin will keep your jewelry like-new. If you are rotating your jewels, cleaning them up is as easy as wiping them down with a soft polishing cloth.
14k gold filled is a great, durable and affordable alternative to solid 14k gold. There is very little upkeep for 14k solid gold. It can be worn in water and cleaned with a microfiber cloth to keep it shiny. 14k gold filled is durable and safe to wear in the water. To keep your gold jewelry looking the best for the longest, avoid oils, lotion, perfumes or sunscreen on your jewelry.
Silver is delicate, so make sure to use very soft, microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the surface. Avoid putting lotion, oils, perfume or sunscreen directly on your jewelry to keep it from tarnishing. If you get it wet with chlorine or salt water, rinse it off with regular water and dry.
As for copper, bronze and brass, avoid getting them wet and if they do start to darken, use a soft bristle toothbrush and a bit of toothpaste to polish them back to their original shine. Also keeping them in normal rotation will help preserve their luster.
